Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday that "killing, expanding settlement, destruction and uprooting of the Palestinian population will not bring peace or security" in the region.

Abbas made the remarks during a meeting at his office with an Israeli delegation representing former left-wing members of the Israeli parliament, according to the official news agency WAFA.

Abbas reviewed the latest political developments, and the serious deadlock facing the political process as a result of the policy of the Israeli government and the biased US support, according to WAFA.

"This (Israeli) government's policies and the biased US decisions contradict with the international resolutions and are harming the chances of making just peace based on the two-state solution along 1967 borders," he said.

The Israeli delegation expressed their great appreciation for Abbas' commitment to achieving peace between the Palestinian and the Israeli people, WAFA reported.

Abbas has been holding regular meetings with Israeli figures from various parties, despite no official peace negotiations between the two sides, as US-sponsored peace talks have stopped since 2014.

Earlier in the day, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov warned Israel against the demolition of the Al Khan Al-Ahmar Bedouin village east of Jerusalem.

Mladenov called on the Israeli authorities not to proceed with the demolition and stop efforts to resettle Palestinian communities in the West Bank.

"Such acts are contrary to international law and can undermine the chances of establishing a viable and contiguous Palestinian state," the UN coordinator said.
