India celebrated Govardhan Puja, a Hindu festival in which devotees offer vegetarian food to Bhagwan Shri Krishna as a mark of gratitude, on November 8. The rituals are different from place to place, but villages in Ujjain have an altogether different way of celebration. The century-old ritual sees men volunteer to get trampled by cattle in the hopes of getting happiness and prosperity. Cattle are sacred to India's Hindu majority and are painted specially for this practice.
