President Xi Jinping on Tuesday noted that from antiquity to this day, heroes always come out of early youth.
Xi made the remarks during a speech at a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
He pointed out that at the time The Communist Manifesto was published, Karl Marx was 30 and Friedrich Engels was 28.
Chairman Mao Zedong was 28 when the 1st National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened and Deng Xiaoping joined the Chinese Communist Youth League in Europe when he was only 18, Xi added.
The Chinese president also highlighted that the average age of Chang'e mission team and Shenzhou mission team was 33 while Beidou team's mean age was 35.
The movement in 1919, launched by young intellectuals and participated by people from all walks of life, was a great patriotic and revolutionary campaign resolutely fighting against imperialism and feudalism.
In 1949, the government of the newly-founded People's Republic of China declared May 4 National Youth Day to preserve and promote the spirit of patriotism and democracy of the May Fourth Movement.
