The publication of the provisional results of the general election in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), initially expected on Sunday, has been postponed, according to Corneille Nangaa, president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).

"It is not possible to publish the results on Sunday," Nangaa said on Saturday without giving a new definite date in the coming week. "We are progressing well but we do not have everything done yet."

He added that "we will certainly have the result" during the week.

According to Nangaa, the CENI had only received around 45 to 48 percent of ballots across the country.

The election kicked off on Dec. 30, except in three cities due to insecurity and the Ebola virus epidemic, which had been hitting a large part of the North-Kivu province in eastern DRC.

Martin Fayulu, candidate of the coalition "Lamuka" of the opposition, has already claimed victory in the election in spite of the call of the CENI to respect the rules which give the agency the exclusive right to publish provisional and final results.
