China and Russia should support each other and enhance cooperation in international affairs, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday while meeting with the visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing.
Lavrov is on an official visit to China until Tuesday and is in Beijing for the foreign ministers’ meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
As Russian President Putin is going to visit China in June and attend the SCO summit in Qingdao City, Xi said he expected to meet with Putin while discussing China-Russia relations for future cooperation.

High-level relations between China and Russia are treasures for two countries, Xi said, adding that China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has maintained positive development.
The high-level exchanges should continue to lead the development of bilateral relations, while the two countries should make efforts to implement consensus reached between the two leaders, and push forward the joint cooperation between China's Belt and Road Initiative and Eurasian Economic Union, Xi noted.
China and Russia should jointly safeguard international laws and rules, enhance cooperation under the framework of SCO, BRICS and G20, and build a new type of international relations and a community of shared future together with other countries, Xi said.
I believe that with the joint efforts of both sides, Sino-Russian relations will continue to make new achievements and climb new heights, Xi said.
Lavrov said Russia attaches great importance to developing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination and hopes that the two countries could deepen cooperation in various areas.

Like China, Russia respects international law and the UN charter, and agrees that the two sides should further strengthen coordination under the multilateral framework.
Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, also attended the meeting.
