Promoting Chinese language through more reading

China is promoting Chinese language learning among students by introducing more creative methods to raise younger generation’s interest in the language itself, and it includes increasing the time of reading class among junior students.
According to the No.25 Middle School of Shijiazhuang City, teachers pay more attention on exploring study methods on reading class through some online materials such as audios and videos.

In recent years, events and TV shows have promoted traditional Chinese culture and poem reading as well as Chinese character contest are getting more popularity among younger generation who were once thought losing interest in traditional culture.
“You could feel the passion of writings by reading it aloud,” said Zhang Ximei, a student from the No.25 Middle School.

Zhao Minzhan, the school principal, told CGTN that they are setting up classroom for reading class particularly, and also planning to hold events that nurture young readers among the students.
The Ministry of Education is building a platform that will help students and teachers to gain access to high quality audio contents of teaching material, a project that will benefit over a hundred million students and nine million teachers across China.
