At least eight people were killed and three others were injured in a residential house fire in Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday, according to local authorities.

The fire broke out in a residential area in Xishan District at 1:58 a.m. BJT.

Five people were killed in the fire and three others were killed when escaping from the building.

An investigation of the incident is underway.
