As the “Detroit City in Africa,” Port Elizabeth (PE) has been shifting the attention of Chinese car makers to the home of South Africa’s motor vehicle industry.
PE is 1,047 kilometers away from Johannesburg, the BRICS 2018 host city.
On the fourth day of BRICS's journey, CGTN reporting team interviewed authorities from BAIC South Africa, a subsidiary of BAIC Group, on automation-related topics including local consumer preferences.
Under The Belt and Road Initiative, a development strategy proposed by the Chinese government in 2013, Chinese car manufacturers including BAIC Group and FAW Group have established their factories in Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which is 20kms away from the PE.
