Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed promoting the spirit of the Constitution and upholding the constitution's authority in an instruction on the country's fifth Constitution Day, which falls on Tuesday.
The instruction was conveyed at a seminar on further learning and implementing the Constitution, which was held by the general office of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday.
The Chinese president, who is currently in Portugal in the wake of his South America and Europe tour, said in the instruction that the Constitution provides the fundamental legal guarantee for China's reform and opening up and socialist modernization.
The establishment and improvement of the Constitution under the leadership of the Party is aimed at reassuring the key role played by the Constitution in the governance of the country, Xi said in the instruction.
He called for the strict implementation of the Constitution and the strengthening of its supervision.
He also encouraged more promotional activities among the party and the whole society to motivate people to respect, learn, use and obey the Constitution.
Let everyone be the loyal admirer, follower and defender of the Constitution, Xi added.
Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, was also present at the seminar.
