China encourages people from all walks of life in China and the United States to hold conversations frankly and sincerely, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang at a daily news conference on Thursday.

Lu made the remarks after CGTN anchor Liu Xin joined Fox Business Network host Trish Regan on her primetime show for a live television discussion on China-U.S. trade issues. 

"This should not be a debate, but a dialogue between two anchors. In fact, given the current situation of China-U.S. relations, we encourage, and are pleased to see, people from all walks of life in the two countries to engage in frank, honest and rational dialogue," said Lu.
