China's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that China has always advocated the complete and accurate interpretation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by the international community, which will help maintain the international nuclear proliferation system and safeguard peace and stability in the Middle East.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a preemptive warning to Iran on Thursday against pursuing three planned space rocket launches that it said would violate a UNSC resolution because they use ballistic missile technology.
Iran rejected the warning, saying its space vehicle launches and missile tests were not violations.
"Iran's launch of space vehicles – & missile tests – are NOT in violation of (Resolution) 2231. The US is in material breach of same, & as such it is in no position to lecture anyone on it," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in Twitter post on Thursday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said that under the current situation, China hopes that all relevant parties can proceed from the overall situation, maintain and implement the Iran nuclear deal and, on this basis, resolve other issues through dialogue and consultation.
UNSCR 2231 endorsed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or the 2015 deal on nuclear program of Iran.
The U.S. pulled out of the multilateral deal in May last year and reimposed sanctions on Tehran.
