The world-famous giants created by the French street theater group Royal de Luxe started their last ever show Friday on the streets of Liverpool.

Tens of thousands of people crowded into the city center to watch the start of a three-day spectacular with streets closed to make way for the visitors.

School children from across the city were bused into downtown Liverpool to catch a glimpse of the giants for what the art group says is their last ever outing anywhere in the world.

People from across the country have also made the journey to Liverpool to see what has been hailed as one of the most spectacular pieces of street theater in the world.

Royal de Luxe's giants have wowed millions of people across the world with their incredible characters.

For their finale, they have introduced a new character, a black boy who is featured in the Liverpool Dream storyline, created for the Liverpool festival.

The boy made his way after sleeping in a giant hammock in one of Liverpool's most famous buildings, St George's Hall.

Friday morning saw the little boy giant and giant dog Oxlo head from the downtown area towards Liverpool's most multi-ethnic district, Toxteth.

On the opposite side of the River Mersey, another giant emerged on the beach at New Brighton, a seaside resort popular with people in the city region.

All of the giants will converge on the Liverpool waterfront Saturday and Sunday before finally waving goodbye forever on Sunday.
