Chinese Premier Li Keqiang urged Beijing and Berlin to work together in promoting free and fair trade on July 9, during talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Li said both countries should deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to send positive signals about their support of free and fair trade. Merkel said Germany would like to expand bilateral people-to-people exchanges with China as 2019 is the year of German-Chinese cultural exchanges.
