Barcelona president rules out Neymar return

Barcelona will not be looking to re-sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar, according to the club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Neymar played for the Catalan giants from 2013 to 2017 before joining PSG when the French champions activated his 255 million US dollars release clause, making him the most expensive player of all time.

The Brazil international has continued his sparkling run of form in France, scoring 39 and setting up 21 in 41 appearances, though the 26-year-old is said to feel unmotivated in Ligue 1, with his current side storming to an inevitable sixth successive league title in seven years.

Thomas Tuchel's side coasted to a record-extending 10th straight win in the rested Neymar's absence on Saturday as the almighty PSG are already eight points clear at the top of the table.

Speculation has been rife recently about how Neymar regrets leaving Barcelona for PSG, with the latest suggesting that the Spanish side are contemplating making a sensational move to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou, but Bartomeu dismissed such talk during an exclusive interview.

"Neymar has left and he is not expected to return to Barcelona. There are no plans to bring him back," he told Spanish media outlet El matí de Catalunya Ràdio.

"No one is scheduled to be signed in January, unless we are told something that would see a change in plans. This is a smaller squad because there are B players who have given strong signals that they can be on the first team," he added.

By contrast, Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde has refused to rule out the possibility of Neymar returning to his side in the future.

"It's not even in a transfer period at the moment, so I can't talk about a player and it's not something that'd happen in the next month or so anyway," he told reporters in a press conference. "Anything can happen in football, but it's hard, unlikely. I don't know, we'll see."

Neymar, meanwhile, remains coy on his future and insists he won't let transfer rumors affect his performance on the pitch.

"I have good games and numbers and come here to make history and try to get the best out of myself. Speculation has always existed and will always exist," he told the Brazilian media earlier this year.

"Since Santos and in my years in Barcelona, all the transfers windows had something with my name. It's impossible to stay out of it. I'm happy, I'm fine. "

"Good players always have rumors about them going around and I'm not alone in that but at the moment it seems that they only talk about me. What can I do about that?"
