A satellite has successfully test-fired a harpoon into space to capture dangerous space debris. The RemoveDEBRIS satellite mission conducted the experiment. British scientists launched the project last year to address the build-up of dangerous space debris. It is estimated that there are more than 7,600 tonnes of space junk in and around the Earth's orbit. This is the RemoveDEBRIS project's third successful experiment.
