Researchers say up to 8.3 billion plastic drinking straws litter the world’s coastlines. Britain and the U.S. have led the way in calling for a ban on plastic straws. China has also taken up the fight. Factories in Yiwu, China’s capital of small commodities, have started to produce paper straws. This factory has gone so far as to invent a type of straw that can be eaten.
