Argentina's football legend Diego Armando Maradona was once again back in the studio, discussing and dissecting several important topics pertaining to the ongoing World Cup.
The football icon stressed that these knockout games aren’t as easy as the group league games and there will be no dull game henceforth.
Maradona made the comments on Friday as he said that the easy matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia has already ended after the conclusion of the group stage and from now on it will be the start of a new championship. During his daily program “By the Hand of the Ten,” televised by teleSUR, Maradona said that “now it appears that the days of easy matches, expected match results are over, now begins another championship.” He added that the first round saw a lot of goals, but in this new stage, the players must show their worth and class.
He also mentioned that the defending champion Germany suffered a major setback and elimination in the opening round because of their lack of participation in the big tournament.
Maradona also expressed confidence that the current Albiceleste can overcome France in the next game even though the European side has good players and is one of the favorites to win this World Cup. “I see France as a possible champion for all the data, statistics and records you have.” On the other hand, he lauded the success of the video assistant referee (VAR) system in this World cup since it can completely change a match. While citing an example, Maradona explained, “The VAR was essential for Colombia to be in the final round.”
