The ongoing Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations in Beijing hosted a sub-forum on Asian governance on Wednesday, with the theme "Pooling the Wisdom of Diverse Civilizations for a Beautiful Asia." Participants exchanged views and shared experiences, many of which focused on people and their livelihoods in the region.
Senior Chinese official Huang Kunming - the host of the forum - cited the Belt and Road Initiative as a significant tool for cooperation among Asian countries, and a good chance to work together to meet common challenges, especially on people's livelihoods.
"New practices have been developed to improve global economic governance.. and there have been new contributions to improving people's livelihoods in different countries," said Huang.

China's emphasis on the well-being of its people struck a chord with many, to which Thailand's former prime minister Korn Dabbaransi also relates.
"Good governance is for the well-being of the people," Dabbaransi said. "Whatever we do, whatever policy we wish to implement, we have to be sure that it will lead to ultimately better living for the people."
Chinese Foreign Language Press published two survey reports on the mutual recognition of Asian civilizations and Asia's role in global governance. The results are optimistic.
Over 80 percent of Asians recognize peace and harmony as common values, and that Asian countries should share mutual benefits in a shared community.
The contribution of Asian nations to global governance has also been given due recognition. With contributions to areas like multilateral governance and the fight against poverty, China ranked second in terms of global governance, sharing a top-10 position with Japan and India.
