China urged the United States, Japan and Australia to take concrete actions to increase investment in the Indo-Pacific region, according to a regular press briefing by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks while responding to a question concerning the three countries' pledge to invest in the region, including 113 million US dollars from Washington for technology, energy and infrastructure.
Geng welcomed the gesture, but cautioned that such offers have been made before.
"Actions speak louder than words. China hopes the three countries can promote regional connectivity and development with investments and tangible actions that lead to actual results," Geng said, adding that China will maintain communication with all sides under the principles of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and mutual benefits to jointly promote regional connectivity and economic growth.
Commenting on whether this will pose a challenge to China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the spokesperson emphasized that China welcomes any country of mutual interests and goals to participate in the BRI.
