China-Russia relations have become a major-country relationship featuring the highest degree of mutual trust, the highest level of coordination and the highest strategic value.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made the remarks when meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Wednesday after attending a welcome ceremony hosted by the Russian president.

Thanks to the joint efforts from both sides, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination is now at its best in history, serving as a model of living in harmony and win-win cooperation between major countries and neighboring countries, Xi said.

President Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, extended his greetings and wishes to the Russian government and people.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Russia, Xi said, adding that bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership has become a model for the world's major powers to coexist well and conduct win-win cooperation.

Xi said the two countries have firm political mutual trust, have a mature mechanism in exchanges between high levels and all areas, and have played constructive roles in safeguarding world peace and justice.

The two heads of state would plan for the future development of the bilateral relationship so as to accelerate the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to a new era of greater development at a higher level, Xi said.

Xi's visit to Russia, the eighth since 2013 when he was elected Chinese president, comes as the two countries are embracing the historic moment of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

During his stay, Xi will also attend the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), where he will address a plenary session and explain China's stance on sustainable development.

China's economy will have enough factors of support to maintain stable, healthy and sustainable development, Xi told Russian media on the eve of his arrival.

Xi on Wednesday arrived in Moscow for a state visit to Russia from June 5 to 7 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he will also participate in the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

He will address a plenary session to expound China's ideas on sustainable development and call for concerted efforts to safeguard multilateralism and improve global governance for the common development and prosperity of the world.
