Chinese Premier Li and Japanese PM Abe attend joint press conference

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended a joint press conference in Beijing on Friday to announce the outcomes of Abe's visit to Beijing.

China and Japan have signed a broad range of agreements and business deals on strengthening bilateral ties.

Li and Abe told reporters that both China and Japan have agreed to step up cooperation in multiple areas, from finance, trade, innovation, sports, cultural exchange to high-level dialogue.

The two countries decided to set next year as a year to enhance exchange between young people.

During the press conference, Li said China is willing to maintain long-term China-Japan relations which is beneficial to the stability of the region.

"The two sides have confirmed, we will abide by the principles of the four political documents of China and Japan, properly deal with historical and Taiwan issues, so as to maintain the political basis of the bilateral relations," said Li.

"Both sides think that we should practice actual deeds to reflect the political consensus-- that we are cooperation partners to each other, not a threat, and we support each other for peaceful development. Conflicts and differences shall be constructively managed, so as to push for a steady and healthy development of bilateral relations," Li stressed.

"We have common goals and responsibilities for stability in the region," Abe said, adding Japan will try to normalize diplomatic relation with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Abe also showed confidence on the China-Japan ties, saying "A bright future waits for us."

"Turning from competition to cooperation, the relationship of the two nations is entering a new stage. I'm willing to work with Premier Li Keqiang, to vigorously push forward the bilateral relations," said Abe.

"We've set up a new mechanism to promote the cooperation of China and Japan in third-party markets. Over one thousand business representatives from the two nations gathering and signing multiple cooperation documents is one of the good examples," Abe noted.

This is the second day of Abe's official visit to China.

Abe's visit, scheduled from October 25 to 27, marks the first official visit to China by a Japanese prime minister in seven years.

Earlier on Friday, Premier Li held a welcome ceremony for his visiting Japanese counterpart in Beijing, followed by talks between them.
