In Japan, the tragic death of a 10-year-old girl after injuries sustained by her father has prompted the government to act. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ordered, in cases of suspected child abuse, emergency checks must be conducted within a month to confirm children's safety. Official data released on Thursday showed the number of reported cases of suspected child abuse in Japan hit a record high of over 80,000 in 2018.
