Foreign Ministry: China favors developments on the Korean Peninsula

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) held a groundbreaking ceremony to connect road and rail links on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spoke favorably of the developments on the Korean Peninsula.
"The DPRK and South Korea (ROK) have promoted reconciliation and cooperation, and made a series of progressive steps. The two sides' cross-boundary project ceremony was successfully held. It has positive significance for peace on the peninsula," spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters at the daily briefing.
China believes that mutual trust will continue progress of the inter-Korean political settlement, which is in line with the common benefit of the peninsula and regional countries, said Hua.
Both sides are actively implementing the consensus reached by their leaders, following the spirit of the Panmunjom Declaration and continuously promoting reconciliation and cooperation, the spokesperson added.
When asked about China's attitude towards Seoul's seeking to stop referencing the DPRK as the "main enemy" in the defense white paper in 2018, Hua hailed the improvement and said her country is truly gratified to see that recently the DPRK and the ROK have conducted positive contacts and interactions in many fields and achieved more and more consensus and outcomes.
