On the sixth day of the World Table Tennis Championships in Budapest, Chinese pair Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen won the mixed doubles gold medal with a dominating victory of 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 and 11-4 against the defending champions Maharu Yoshimura and Kasumi Ishikawa from Japan.
The Chinese pair secured an easy opening game with a 4-1 lead and deftly ended with 11-5.
In the second game, their Japanese counterparts clawed back via a 5-2 lead but then failed to resist Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen's aggressiveness. The Chinese pair took the game with 11-8.

Maharu Yoshimura and Kasumi Ishikawa poured a 10-5 advantage in the third game, Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen added four points to respond. However, the scoring run was stalled as Maharu Yoshimura and Kasumi Ishikawa called for a time out, and the Chinese group eventually lost the game with a 9-11 deficit.
In the fourth game, the Chinese pair established a 6-1 run and took the game with 11-9, holding a 3-1 lead against their rival.
Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen dominated the following game via an 8-3 lead and then added two points grabbing seven match points. After a loss of one, the Chinese pair won the game with 11-4 and claimed the championship.
