HE WEIWEI GUANGZHOU Last year, China's highest grossing domestic movie stood at 3.3 bln yuan of box office, and this year the Wolf Warrior 2 has no doubt made an even bigger commercial success. In one of the biggest cinemas in Guangzhou, this movie contributed to 70 percent of the box office takings.

And that is one reason for its high earnings. The movie is so popular that screenings for the day usually sell out two days ago. China's box office raked in a total of 45 billion yuan last year, and domestic films account for over half of that.
