The second seabed electric cable grid that goes through the Qiongzhou Strait was put into operation on May 30 in Hainan province. This electric cable grid helps double the power transmission capacity to Hainan Province to 1.2 million kilowatts. Hainan had suffered a shortage of power and relied heavily on coal and gas-fired power before 2019. The project will further ease power shortages on the entire island.
