In Gaza, more than two million people struggle for basic power and electricity in their households. But the Chinese Embassy in Ramallah is providing humanitarian support to help Palestinian homes, giving people a better life. CGTN's Noor Harazeen has more.
A non-profit charity in the Gaza Strip is reaching out to the disadvantaged hoping to provide poor households with literally a brighter future, courtesy of solar power and China. The project, run by the non-governmental Give Palestine Association, is focused on 55 houses in the al-Shoka neighborhood in Rafah in the southern coastal territory. The Chinese Embassy in Ramallah provided humanitarian assistance to help Palestinian families. More than two million people in Gaza subsist on just a few hours of power a day because of reduced electricity supplied by Israel. One of the project's beneficiaries said the solar effort has helped change life at home.
ABDEL RAOUF AL-DBEIRI PALESTINE RESIDENT "Power outages last for 14 hours a day. The situation is very difficult, We used to get by with just candle light, but the solar panel project has made life much better. Now, at night we can run the washing machine, the refrigerator and TV, and my children can easily do their homework."
Helping to empower poor families in war-battered Gaza is vital. Approximately 70 percent of the residents are dependent on humanitarian aid. The Palestine Red Crescent Society provides quality services to vulnerable Palestinians.
MOHAMED ABU MUSABEH DIRECTOR, PALESTINE RED CRESCENT SOCIETY \u201CHumanity extends beyond borders. Humanity knows no ethnicities, colors and religions. Human rights should be respected and defended in all cultures.
The project by the Palestine Red Crescent is a reminder of the contributions made internationally. Saturday is World Humanity Day, an annual opportunity to honor aid workers around the globe who risk their lives to provide humanitarian service. This year's theme reaffirms civilians caught in the middle of war and disasters are not forgotten. Noor Harazeen, CGTN, GAZA.
