Japan's Sony Corp. said on Wednesday that it will allow PlayStation 4 players to play against users on other devices, starting with the game Fortnite.
The cross-play platforms of the popular battle game Fortnite now include PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, Mac and Microsoft Windows.
This is the first time Sony has launched a cross-platform style gameplay, and the beta test for the game is now available for PS4 users who will be able to use what they've achieved in the game on other platforms.

Previously, PS4 gamers couldn't play with players on Switch or Xbox, however users on Switch, Xbox and PC could battle together online. It caused strong dissatisfaction among many game lovers.
Sony has recognized that "PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community's continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution," said John Kodera, president and global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a statement on Wednesday to launch PS4 cross-platform features.
In recognition of the value of cross-platform experiences to players, "we have completed a thorough analysis of the business mechanics required to ensure that the PlayStation experience for our users remains intact today, and in the future, as we look to open up the platform."
