Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani was awarded the international Golden Foot award in Monaco on Tuesday.
Organized by the World Champions Club, the award recognizes the best active footballer of the year aged 28 and over and is based on votes by media as well as members of the public.
The 31-year-old Uruguayan international Cavani edged out Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and fellow Uruguay forward Luis Suarez to the prestigious laurel. Cavani made his debut in his homeland for Danubio before moving to Europe with Italian side Palermo in 2007.
Since the 2008-09 season, he scored in double digits every season playing for Palermo, Napoli, and French Ligue 1 champions PSG, where he bagged four domestic league titles.
Cavani also has 46 goals in 106 games for Uruguay and was part of the winning side of the Copa America in 2011.
