Yu Haiyan, former vice governor of northwest China's Gansu Province, stood trial for bribery on Thursday at the First Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing Municipality.
According to the prosecutor indictment, between 1998 and 2016, Yu took advantage of various posts to try to benefit from product sales, project contracting, real estate development and personnel arrangements and promotions for some units and individuals.
In return, he accepted money and gifts worth over 65.6 million yuan (10.3 million US dollars) through either himself or his wife, Li Yanhua, the indictment said.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence, which Yu and his defense attorneys examined.
Both sides fully expressed their opinions, according to the court.
Yu gave his final statement in court, pleaded guilty and expressed repentance.
About 70 people, including Yu's family, lawmakers, political advisers, journalists and members of public, attended the trial.
The court ruling will be announced at a later date.
