The inter-governmental Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the next summit of which is due to be held in China in May, has become a pilot model for mutual respect, justice and fairness as well as a win-win relationship since its founding 17 years ago, said Chinese President Xi Jinping.
President Xi made the remarks during his meeting with foreign ministers of the seven SCO member countries as well as two representatives from the organization's secretariat at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
He stressed that China has put the SCO as one of the country's diplomatic priorities.
The potential of all the parties should be fully developed while exerting their existing advantages, the president continued. In addition, comprehensive cooperation should be further pushed forward.
Xi urged all member countries to continue to support each other in all respects: Deepening the Belt and Road Initiative on the economic front, and expanding people-to-people exchanges on the social front and in other areas.
The attending foreign ministers were Sergey Lavrov from Russia, Sushma Swaraj from India, Erlan Abdyldayev from Kyrgyzstan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif from Pakistan, Sirodjidin Aslov from Tajikistan, and Abdulaziz Kamilov from Uzbekistan.
SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov and Yevgeniy Sergeyevich Sysoyev, SCO director of Regional Anti-Terrorist of Structure, were also at the meeting.
They praised the preparations China has made as the host country and expressed their determination to work more closely in the future on global affairs.
