The 2nd China Global Television Network (CGTN) Global Media Summit and the 8th Global Video Media Forum opened in southwest China's Chongqing on Tuesday morning.
CGTN reporter John Goodrich interviewed two media gurus to discover the field's latest trends.
New ways of storytelling
Christoph Pleitgen, SVP and Sales & Business Development from Wochit, is deeply impressed by how much the summit has developed over the years. He claims that for the digital environment, namely the Internet and social networks, video production would be much easier and journalists with inadequate expertise in video editing.
Wochit's services go beyond video news because video today has become a medium for almost every genre available.
“Over the last eighteen months or so, we witnessed an explosion of creativity,” Pleitgen said, “so people today are creating content which is much broader than hard news.”
He also noticed that the mode of storytelling is shifting, so the industry needs to create a new way to tell stories to connect with the audience.
Bigger visual journalism projects
Phil Chetwynd, global editor-in-chief from AFP, expressed his concerns about visual journalism.
In the digital era, the strengths of traditional news agencies have persisted but now amateur video producers work in a complementary manner too.
However, Chetwynd noted that experimental projects are necessary since the industry is changing with the advances of technology.
