Thousands of years ago, there was a bright blue gemstone that was widely beloved. From the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun’s gold mask to China’s Kizil Caves, Lapis Lazuli could be found despite originating in the Kokcha River Valley in Afghanistan. An overland trade route for Lapis Lazuli emerged across Asia, before the emergence of the more familiar Silk Road, Spice Road, and other trade routes.
