France's financial crimes office revealed on Friday that Tsunekazu Takeda, head of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), is being investigated on corruption charges related to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. A suspected payment of two million U.S. dollars was made around the time of Japan's successful bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. Takeda, a former show jumper who competed at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, has been the president of the JOC since 2001.
