New Envoy on Peninsula Issue: China appoints new special envoy for Peninsula issue

China has appointed a new special envoy for the Korean Peninsula affairs. 
 
Kong Xuanyou is an ethnic Korean from the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang. With a degree in Japanese language, he has held senior positions at the Chinese embassy in Japan for more than a decade. He used to be China's ambassador to Vietnam, and held responsibility for diplomatic affairs related to border issues in Asia. 
 
The Foreign Ministry said there will be no change in China's policy towards the Korean peninsula. So far, there has been no information about whether Kong has any immediate plans to visit Pyongyang.
