Manchester United's longtime former manager, Alex Ferguson, is back in good health after undergoing an emergency brain surgery two months ago. The 76-year-old has spoken publicly for the first time, giving thanks to the medical staff who saved his life, and to people around the world who sent him messages of support.
“Hello. Just a quick message. First of all, to thank the medical staff of Macclesfield, Salford Royal, and Alexandra Hospitals. Believe me, without those people who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. So thank you from me and my family.” Ferguson said.
“Thank you very much. It's made me feel so humble, as all the messages I've had from people all over the world wishing me the best, and the good wishes do resonate very very strongly with me, so thank you for that support you've given me.”
Ferguson suffered a brain hemorrhage in May, less than one week after visiting Old Trafford to present Arsenal Wenger with a commemorative vase, in honor of the Frenchman's work at rival club Arsenal. The former Manchester United boss had not appeared in public since his operation, until MUTV released the video message from the Scotsman, who has been recovering at his home in Northwest England.
“I'll be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose Mourinho and the players. Thank you very much." Ferguson said.
Ferguson retired in 2013 after almost 27 years in charge of the Red Devils. He led the team to 13 English Premier League titles and two FA Cups, as well as UEFA Champions League trophies in 1999 and 2008, with their continental victory 19 years ago completing a treble.
