The trade secrets of automakers like GM, Ford, Tesla and Toyota were exposed due to a data leak, according to a media report on Saturday.
47,000 files from over 100 manufacturing companies were left unsecured on a publicly accessible server named Level One Robotics and Controls, which provides industrial automation services, according to security researcher UpGuard Cyber Risk.
Leaked data includes detailed product designs, client contracts, invoices, bank accounts, work plans and other confidential information.
UpGuard Cyber Risk warned that large companies with seemingly tight security protocols should pay more attention to their supply chains.
The researcher issued a leakage warning last week, and the information was taken offline within a day, according to the New York Times.
