World No. 2 duet Shi Yuqi and Chen Yufei produced a superb performance as hosts China began their Sudirman Cup campaign with a 5-0 victory over Group 1D rivals Malaysia in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Sunday.

The closest match was the opener in which third-ranked Chinese Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen battled their way past All-England runners-up Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 21-14, 24-22, having trailed 18-21 in the first game before clinching the decider on their third match point.

"We held up ourselves firmly despite lagging behind, and we made an adjustment at the right moments to take the third and decisive set," said head coach Zhang Jun after China's hard-fought win in the men's doubles settled his nerves.

Zhang's team then played out the same script as Chen Yufei also rallied from one set down to overwhelm Soniia Cheah 21-15, 21-23 21-14 in the women's singles, giving the Chinese a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Not to be outdone by Chen, Shi Yuqi put on a flawless display by swatting aside Malaysia's No. 1 singles player Lee Zii Jia 21-12, 21-11 in over half an hour.
