All the Chinese racers competing in this year's Dakar rally have finished the 342-kilometer timed stage on Peru's coastal desert dunes on Tuesday.

Nine-time world champion, Frenchman Sebastien Loeb won the second stage, which travels from Pisco to San Juan de Marcona, by holding off a challenge from Spain's Nani Roma.

Qatar's overnight leader Nasser Al-Attiyah, who is driving a Toyota, opened the road for the rest and dropped back to eighth place, nearly three and a half minutes adrift of Giniel de Villiers of South Africa, who is also the 2009 Dakar champion.

China's Han Wei and Liao Min finished 94th as they had technical problems during the race.

In the motorbike division, Spain's Joan Barreda came third on his Honda to stay ahead in the overall standings, as defending champion Matthias Walkner of KTM edged Ricky Brabec - also racing a Honda - by 22 seconds for the stage.

China's motorbiker Zhang Min, who ranked 64th, said “the challenge of this stage is the soft sand and high temperature. We started late, but overall, it was a smooth journey for us.”

On Wednesday, the route will take the drivers through a further 331 kilometers of special terrain, mainly in dunes again, between San Juan de Marcona and Arequipa.
