China has revised a document outlining rewards for those who report pornography and illegal publications, Beijing News reported on Friday.
The Office of the National Work Group for "Combating Pornography and Illegal Publications," the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) and the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) have jointly issued the revised document, the report said.
Starting December 1, the document has improved guidelines on reporting and reward range, standards, procedures and supervising the content of "crackdown [against] pornography and illegal publications".
The document also indicates 11 conditions of the reward standards for citizens who report porn and raises the relevant reward standards. The maximum reward for reporting illegal publishing activities is 600,000 yuan (86,900 US dollars).
16 types of relevant issues can be reported
The file indicates 16 types that belong to the scope of "eliminate pornography and illegal publications" reporting rewards, covers all kinds of problems related to pornography and illegal publications involved in online information endangering the safety of ideology and the order of the press and publication industry.
At the same time, it clarifies conditions that accord with such reward, and those that don't.
Related reward standards
The maximum reward for reporting illegal publishing activities is up to 600,000 yuan (86,900 US dollars), and the maximum reward for reporting online information and applications that endanger the physical and mental health of minors and social morality can be up to 50,000 yuan (7,240 US dollars), the report added.
The reward will be given to those who have contributed in reporting the illegal publication within two percent of the amount of publication's total business revenue covered by each case, but below the maximum sum of 600,000 yuan (86,900 US dollars).
If the total business revenue cannot be verified or is less than 50,000 yuan (7,200 US dollars), depending on the case, a reward of 1,000 yuan (145 US dollars) to 5,000 yuan (720 US dollars) shall be given to the informer.
The file also stipulates the reward standards for other kinds of reports; the concerned officials said that along with the announcement, it is helpful to fully encourage and mobilize citizens' enthusiasm to participate in the crackdown against pornography and illegal publications.
The efforts to oversee social media expanded in recent years as part of government's push to "promote the healthy, orderly development of the Internet, protect state security and public interest".
Over 9,800 "we-media" accounts have been handled by laws and regulations since October 20. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) states that it will continue to strengthen the inspection and supervision of "we-media" platforms together with relevant departments, to foster a sound growth environment for "we-media" to ensure the healthy development of the industry.
