The Ministry of Unification in the Republic of Korea (ROK) has granted a Buddhist monk the permission to visit the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the first such decision on non-governmental exchanges since President Moon Jae-in came to office.
The visit will take place on June 2-6.
Korea Times said the monk will travel to the DPRK via China, and will hold discussions with DPRK Buddhists over restoration work of a temple.
The visit comes amid unprecedented rapprochement between Pyongyang and Seoul as the two countries engage in dialogue over the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
