China hopes that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the U.S. can continue the dialogue and meet each other halfway, pushing forward the political settlement process of the Korean Peninsula issue on the basis of mutual respect, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a daily news briefing on Friday.
Lu made the remarks in response to the no deal outcome from the second Trump-Kim summit that was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from Wednesday to Thursday.

"China welcomes that both the DPRK and the U.S. expressed their willingness to maintain contact and continue dialogue after the Trump-Kim summit," noted Lu.
"Realizing the denuclearization and the everlasting peace on the Korean Peninsula is the common expectation of the international community," added Lu.
"China will also play a constructive role in the political settlement process of the Korean Peninsula issue."
Lu said Pyongyang and Washington also agreed that lifting sanctions is a key part of denuclearization.
"This is a consensus that could help resolve divisions concerning DPRK sanctions," Lu said, urging both sides to view this issue constructively.
