The military of the Republic of Korea (ROK) has confirmed that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired two short-range missiles on Thursday, according to Yonhap.

ROK military characterized the projectiles as two short-range missiles that flew 420 km and 270 km, respectively, said the report.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon also confirmed on the same day that the DPRK's launches were of ballistic missiles that flew more than 300 kilometers.

"During the early morning hours on 9 May Washington DC local time, early evening hours in Seoul and Tokyo, North Korea (DPRK) flight-tested multiple ballistic missiles from a location in northwestern North Korea," Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Dave Eastburn said in a statement.

"The missiles flew east from the launch area to distances in excess of 300 km before impacting in the ocean."

DPRK state media KCNA said on Friday that Kim Jong Un, the country's top leader, guided a strike drill of defense units of the Korean People's Army in the forefront area and on the western front on Thursday.

The latest launches of projectiles came days after Kim Jong Un oversaw the test of multiple rockets and a missile last Saturday.

The launches also came as U.S. Special Representative for the DPRK Stephen Biegun visited Seoul.

Biegun and his ROK counterpart, Lee Do-hoon, on Friday presided over a meeting of the joint "working-group" aimed at coordinating the allies' approaches on the DPRK's denuclearization, humanitarian aid, and inter-Korean relations, according to Yonhap.
