The Kurds are an ethnic group who inhabit adjacent parts of southeastern Turkey, northwestern Iran, northern Iraq and northern Syria. Some researchers regard the Kurdish people as "the largest ethnic group without a state".
Globally, they are estimated to number anywhere between 30 and 45 million. They are the fourth largest ethnic group in West Asia after the Arabs, Persians and Turks. Forming anywhere between 18 and 25 percent of the population of Turkey, it's the largest minority group there. They also comprise of 15 to 20 percent in Iraq, 10% in Iran and 9% in Syria. The group are culturally, historically and linguistically classified as belonging to the Iranian people.
