Prosecutors have approved the formal arrest of former vice governor of southwest China's Guizhou Province Pu Bo on suspicion of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate announced on Wednesday.
Pu has been under both disciplinary and supervisory investigations. He was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from office.
"Pu violated the Party's eight-point frugality code, attending banquets and tours that could have resulted in him performing his duty unfairly," the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission said in a statement earlier this month.
He is also believed to have taken advantage of his position to influence the appointment of other officials, amassed wealth through gambling, and engaged in business, among other offences.
