Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for concrete cooperation among different countries to advance mutual trust and collective governance in cyberspace and create a vigorous "community with a shared future in cyberspace."

President Xi made the remarks in a congratulatory letter sent to the 5th World Internet Conference, which opened on Wednesday in the water town of Wuzhen, east China's Zhejiang Province.

In the letter, he also calls for the acceleration of the development of the digital economy and the improvement of the Internet management system toward a more just and fair direction.

We should speed up the development of the digital economy and promote the global Internet governance system to advance in a just and more reasonable way, so as to inject new impetus into the world economy, Xi said.

He added that despite the fact that different countries in the world have different national conditions, and are in different stages of their Internet development, they all share the wish of promoting the development of the digital economy, the same interests on dealing with Internet safety, and the same need in strengthening cyberspace governance. That is why every country must cooperate.

Xi also expressed the hope that participants can pool wisdom, achieve consensus and work for a sustainable digital world.

The three-day conference, starting November 7, is themed "Creating a Digital World for Mutual Trust and Collective Governance – Towards a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace."
