Entangled Dalmatian pelican rescued in NW China

On March 13, a Dalmatian pelican was rescued by park rangers after it had been entangled by a fishing thread in the Manasi National Wetland Reserve in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The bird was spotted struggling on water. Park rangers attempted to untie the fishing thread, but the cautious Dalmatian pelican wouldn't let anyone touch.
The rangers finally used a rope to pull it to the shore and set it inside a big cage.

Considering the pelican may be injured, the park rangers took it back to the protection area for treatment.
Lv Jianfei, a park ranger of the Manasi National Wetland Reserve, said the Dalmatian pelican was well treated and would be set free.

"I feed it with fish, its favorite food. This Dalmatian pelican has already regained its normal strength. We will send it back to nature today, and then it would continue to fly north," said Lv.
Dalmatian pelican is listed as "near threatened" by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List and is under the second-class state protection in China.
