The Pelagos Sanctuary is a sea area of 87,500 sq km in Ligurian sea subject to an agreement between Italy, Monaco and France for the protection of marine mammals living in it. This is the first high-seas and the first supra-national protected area in the world. A group of scientists is spending a week charting marine mammal behavior in the area.
