An exhibition featuring winners of the 2018-2019 Red Dot Award for Communication Design kicked off Friday in southeast China's coastal city of Xiamen.

Themed "Speed and Warmness," the event will run through May 19 at the Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen.

It marks the first time that the Red Dot Award: Communication Design has brought all of last year's prize-winning works to China, presenting the latest trending of global communication designs to Chinese design lovers.

At the exhibition are more than 700 prize-winning products and designs from 35 countries and regions on display, covering 17 categories, including packaging design, publishing and print media, posters, film and animation, fair stands and apps.

Visitors will have the chance to see numerous works in a three-dimensional or multimedia presentation.

In addition, it is the first time that the Red Dot Film Festival will be held during the exhibition, showcasing a number of videos such as short films, animations, and commercials that have won the "Red Dot Award: Communication Design."

According to Shi Zhenhong, head of the Red Dot Design Museum in Xiamen, more of such exhibitions are expected to come in the future, where visitors are being given a firsthand experience of the quality of excellent designs by not only having a close look at the innovative objects but also interacting with it.

Initiated in Germany in 1995, the Red Dot Design Award is a top-tier prestigious award in design. As one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design, the award embraces three disciplines: product design, brands & communication design and design concept.

The competitions are held annually to select extraordinary designs with high quality and great creativity in their categories. The award-winning pieces will be presented at the Red Dot Design Museums.

Situated in the rebuilt Terminal 2 of Xiamen Gaoqi Airport, the Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen that opened its doors last November is the third of its kind following the venues in Germany' Essen and Singapore.

Covering an area of 10,000 square meters, the youngest Red Dot design museum is the only one that displays award-winning designs from all three competitions of the Red Dot Award.

This year's "Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design" award ceremony is set to be held on November 1 in Germany's capital city of Berlin.
