A driver who rammed a car into students in Huludao City, northeast China's Liaoning Province on Thursday has been arrested and charged for endangering public safety.
The tragedy happened at the No. 2 Elementary School in Jianchang County at 12:15 p.m.
The 29-year-old suspect, surnamed Han, had an argument with his wife and wanted to commit suicide. His decision to ram his car into the children was not premeditated and the school was chosen at random, according to the report issued by the publicity department of Jianchang County on Friday morning.
Five people were killed and 19 others injured, among whom three seriously injured. All five victims were preschool students. The injured have been hospitalized, according to local reports.
Earlier reports said the death toll had increased to six, but it was later revised back down to five on Thursday night.
